Heineken Targets Indian Market

Heineken NV said Monday it has reached an agreement with India-based United Breweries Ltd. that allows the Dutch company to brew and sell its own brand of beer in that lucrative, growing market.

Heineken hopes that the deal with United Breweries and the Indian company’s major stakeholder, drinks and aviation tycoon Vijay Mallya, will help it break into the Indian market, at a time when beer consumptions is flat or even declining in its core markets of Western Europe and the U.S.
