It has been impossible to ignore the rise of Balenciaga‘s Triple S silhouette.

Since the chunky-soled training shoes first appeared in September 2017, it has appeared at fashion weeks across the world and quickly become a street-style staple.

There are other silhouettes vying to replace the Triple S as fashion’s favourite sneaker, though, with everything from brand-new Prada models to previously unloved Nikes finding a new home among the fashion elite.

From the chunky-soled to the futuristic, we have compiled six of the sneakers that could be coming for Balenciaga’s fashion week crown.

1. Prada Cloudbust

First revealed last summer, Prada’s ultrafuturistic Cloudbust silhouette is the Italian label’s take on an athletics-influenced sneaker.

The shoe comes with a knitted textile upper which is offset with contrasting (or tonal, depending on the colour) leather detailing across the sneaker.

The standout features are undoubtedly the velcro strap and the bubble-like sole unit, which makes the shoe look somewhat like a high-fashion VaporMax.

2. Louis Vuitton Archlight

Influenced by both futuristic trends and vintage basketball shoes, the Louis Vuitton Archlight is an extreme take on the chunky sneaker trend.

A key feature of the training shoes is the exaggerated arch incorporated into the midsole.

The sneaker comes in a range of colours, including a number of white versions featuring contrasting pops of colour.

3. Nike Air Monarch

Nike’s Air Monarch is the “Dad” shoe to end all Dad shoes.

Despite once being Nike’s top seller, the chunky silhouette has been parodied in the past and sat firmly outside of the fashion sphere, although the flame was kept alive by the Team Monarch Instagram account.

Now, though, the Monarch is set for a big 2018 with John Elliott’s NikeLab collaboration and a reported redesign planned for later this year.

In the meantime, you can still pick up the OG silhouette.

4. Adidas YEEZY Desert Rat 500

The latest silhouette in Kanye West‘s ongoing YEEZY collaboration with Adidas Originals, the Desert Rat 500, is a new take on the ubiquitous chunky training shoe trend.

The bulky runner comes with a mixed material upper of suede, leather and mesh atop a bulbous adiPRENE midsole.

So far, the sneaker has emerged in “Supermoon Yellow”, “Blush” and “Utility Black.”

All three Adidas YEEZY Desert Rat 500 colours are rumoured to get an individual release this year.

5. Dior Homme B22

Dior Homme‘s take on the chunky sneaker trend – snappily named the “Black, Red and Yellow Canvas and Calfskin Trainer” — comes with the now-customary bulky sole.

The shoe has a chunky white midsole and subtle Dior Homme branding.

Although other colours have been spotted, including predominantly white or beige versions, the standout sneaker features a mostly black upper contrasted with neon yellow and red accents.

The Angel from Stockholm-based label, Eytys, is a mix of different influences, including the barrio style of 1990s East Los Angeles and classic trail shoe silhouettes.

The sneaker fits perfectly into the chunky sneaker trend, with the oversized sole unit the shoe’s defining feature.

So far, the shoe has appeared in a number of different versions, including suede, leather or canvas uppers.
