Yoox Net-A-Porter Group has tapped a luxury e-commerce veteran to head up its Net-A-Porter business.

Matthew Woolsey will take over as Net-A-Porter’s managing director. Yoox Net-A-Porter Group is No. 72 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide.

Woolsey spent the past four years as the executive vice president of digital at upscale retail chain Barneys New York Inc. (No. 168 in the Top 500). Barneys’ online sales have grown by 40.3% during the past three years to an Internet Retailer-estimated $194.1 million in 2015, up from $138.3 million in 2013.

Net-A-Porter, in announcing his hire, indicated that Woolsey was hired in part because of his content-generating skills.

“His background in journalism, tech and e-commerce defines him as a true 21st century leader with a clear vision of how best to harness technology to enhance service and customer experience,” Net-A-Porter president Alison Loehnis says. “Matthew’s understanding of both an American and international luxury fashion customer will serve him well in his new role managing Net-A-Porter’s global business.”

Woolsey oversaw the relaunch of Barneys’ website last year. In developing its new site, Barneys focused on providing more editorial content via The Window, a section which spotlights influencers and trends, and making the site easier to use for mobile shoppers.
