Thailand was the second-largest online retail market in Southeast Asia last year after Indonesia thanks to social media, says global management consulting firm Bain & Company.
The Boston-based firm said its internal report had shown that Thailand’s potential as an online retail market was among the highest in the region.
“Thailand’s online retail market is expected to reach UScopy0-15 billion by 2020, up from less than $2 billion in 2015,” said Sebastien Lamy, a partner at the firm.
Southeast Asia’s online retail market is expected to hit USD70 billion by 2020, up from USD6 billion in 2015. Online retail sales, however, represented only 4 percent of total sales in the region.
